Here's what we covered in Chapter 2:
-
It is essential to monitor your labs and glucose values to help you understand what lifestyle changes will help you move toward better glucose values.
-
Both a CGM and BGM can be used to monitor glucose values, but a BGM gives you a glucose value at one point in time while a CGM gives you total 24/7 glucose data. A CGM measures glucose values in your interstitial fluid while a BGM measures blood glucose, and there is a delay of roughly 15-45 minutes between the two devices.
-
Monitoring your glucose values also helps you to be aware of potentially dangerous lows (hypoglycemia) or potentially dangerous highs (diabetic ketoacidosis) so you can intervene in a timely manner.
-
Lifestyle interventions like healthy eating, physical activity, sleep, and stress can all play an important role in your glucose values.
