What’s the difference between a glucose biosensor and CGM?
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and glucose biosensors both help track glucose levels, but CGMs require a prescription while Stelo does not, making it more accessible. Built on Dexcom’s advanced CGM technology, the Stelo Glucose Biosensor delivers accurate glucose insights without the need for a prescription.
Why doesn’t my Stelo match my blood glucose meter?
Stelo glucose readings may differ from blood glucose meter (BGM) readings because Stelo measures glucose in the interstitial fluid, while BGMs measure it from a drop of blood. Factors like hand cleanliness, newly inserted biosensors, external pressure, rapid glucose changes, and test strip quality can all affect accuracy. Stelo is proven to be 93% accurate compared to a gold standard laboratory blood glucose test, making it the most accurate biosensor available without a prescription.
Can I use my Stelo while traveling internationally?
To use Stelo, your primary residence must be in the US, and you must create your Stelo app and account while in the US. Once set up, you can use Stelo while traveling internationally.
Can I wear my Stelo sensor through airport security or while flying?
You can wear your sensor through walk-through metal detectors and Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) body scanners. Alternatively, you can request a hand-wanding or a full-body patdown with a visual inspection.
Can I use the Stelo mobile app on a plane?
Yes, to use your app for glucose information on a plane. Simply switch your phone to Airplane Mode and turn Bluetooth on. However, check with your airline for specific policies and always follow crew instructions.
Can I get my Stelo sensor wet?
Yes, your sensor is waterproof up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) and can be worn while bathing, showering, or swimming. If you are in or near water, your compatible smartphone may need to be within 20 feet (6 meters) to receive readings, and readings may be delayed while submerged. Keeping the patch dry can help it stay on longer.
Do you have bulk shipment options?
No, we do not currently offer bulk shipments.
How long can I wear my Stelo sensor?
These sensors are designed for up to 15 days of wear, with a 12-hour grace period at the end. In a study assessing sensor life, 77.9% of sensors lasted the full 15 days, while approximately 20% did not, and 10% lasted fewer than 12 days when used as directed.
