There are two ways to go about logging experiments in the Nutrisense App: Automatically or Manually.
Automatic experiments are a way of setting up your experiment to collect all meals that contain the item you are interested in testing. This is a good option if you want to test one or a couple of things but are uncertain of the exact conditions you want to test. In other words, you are more interested in understanding the meal in its natural state and not under different test conditions. It takes a little setup, but once it is up and running you do not have to remember to add meals to the experiment.
Manual experiments are a way of having a little more control over the specific meals you are testing. This is a good option if you want to do targeted isolated tests with different testing conditions.
Automatic Experiments
- Tap Experiments on the main dashboard
- Tap the Plus button in the top right corner
- Give your experiment a name, such as "Wine". Keep the second field defaulted to "Search All Meals".
- Save the experiment by clicking the check mark in the top right corner.
- Tap on the experiment you just created
- Tap the filter button in the top right corner to set parameters specific to the type of experiment you want. For example, you can add a keyword to the search field such as "wine" to only see meals with the word wine included. You can order your results by different parameters such as the meal score or AUC.
- Your experiment filters are automatically saved and applied when you tap back
Selecting "Search All Meals", means you have now created a new experiments category that will automatically populate with past and future meal cards that match any of your filters. If you type "wine" into the search box and do not set time parameters, you will be able to see all past and future meal cards with the word "wine" in the description.
Automatic experiments are great for monitoring or viewing meals that contain a specific food. Let's say that you have been testing different variations of your morning oatmeal, by adding the word "oat" to your keyword search, you can now view all of your oatmeal experiments with their correlated mini-graphs to see which toppings worked best for you!
Manual Experiments
Manual experiments allow you to pick and choose which meal cards you want to group together.
- Tap Experiments on the main dashboard
- Tap the Plus button in the top right corner
- Give your experiment a name, such as "Legumes", select Custom Meal List, and save by clicking the check mark in the top right corner
- By selecting "Custom Meal List", you have now created a new experiments category that you can manually add meals to. Now, you will have one centralized location to compare all of your legume-based meals.
- As time goes on and you log future meals with legumes, you can add that meal card to your experiment by tapping the 3 dots on the meal cards and selecting "add to experiment".
Manual experiments could include any variety of categories you are trying to track, such as your dinner meals, post-workout shake, or whole grains.
Happy experimenting!
